Admission is free and donations are appreciated; each May, the museum co-hosts the Brighton Mackerel Fair, reviving time-honoured traditions through beachside demonstrations and free public entertainments. Highlights include a scale model of the classic Sussex hog-boat and the restored 27-ft lugger Sussex Maid, which anchor stories of innovation and resilience. Dedicated sections explore lifeboats, pleasure craft and the historic fish market, offering a comprehensive panorama of maritime heritage that invites visitors to reflect on the enduring bond between Brighton and the sea.
