Brighton Bandstand

Brighton Bandstand
About

The Brighton Bandstand, often called the “Birdcage” for its ornate ironwork, is one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian seafront bandstand in England. Designed by Phillip Lockwood and opened in 1884, it was created as a place for music and community gatherings, reflecting the era’s love of open‑air entertainment. After falling into disrepair in the late 20th century, the structure was carefully restored and reopened in 2009, returning its intricate details and elegant design to their former glory. Today it stands proudly on the seafront between Brighton and Hove, offering sweeping views of the beach and sea. The Bandstand is not only a historic monument but also a living venue, hosting summer concerts, community events, and weddings in its unique setting. Beneath it, a café provides a relaxed spot to enjoy the atmosphere of the promenade. Blending heritage with contemporary use, the Brighton Bandstand remains a much‑loved landmark and a symbol of the city’s enduring seaside charm.
