Stanmer Park is Brighton’s largest green space and a gateway to the South Downs National Park, offering 465 acres of parkland, woodland, and farmland steeped in history. Designed in the 18th century, the estate centres on the Grade I listed Stanmer House and the charming Stanmer Village, with its flint cottages, church, and pond. Once a private estate, the park was acquired by the city in 1947 and has since become a much‑loved public space. A major restoration project completed in 2021 revitalised its historic landscape, improved access, and reopened the Walled Garden as One Garden Brighton—a vibrant hub with a café, market, and teaching gardens run by Plumpton College. The park is also home to Earthship Brighton, the UK’s first sustainable building of its kind, and to community projects promoting horticulture, crafts, and wellbeing.
