The Wardrobe Theatre

About

The Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol is a thriving independent venue known for its inventive spirit and welcoming atmosphere. Founded in 2011 by a group of local artists, it began life as a tiny pop‑up above The White Bear pub before moving in 2015 to its permanent home within the Old Market Assembly. Since then, it has become a cornerstone of the city’s fringe theatre scene, celebrated for bold programming that blends comedy, drama, cabaret, puppetry, dance, and family shows. The theatre is especially renowned for its long‑running improvised soap opera Closer Each Day and its irreverent alternative Christmas productions, which have become a Bristol tradition. With a capacity of around 100, the space offers an intimate connection between performers and audiences, making it a favourite for both emerging talent and established acts. Affordable, inclusive, and unafraid of experimentation, The Wardrobe Theatre has built a reputation as one of the most exciting small venues in the UK, where creativity flourishes and audiences return for its unique mix of joy, energy, and originality.
