Winston Theatre

About

The Winston Theatre, located within the University of Bristol Students’ Union on Queens Road, is a traditional proscenium arch theatre with a rich student and cultural history. Opened in 1965 as part of the Union’s expansion, it was designed to provide a professional‑standard performance space for drama, music, and film. With a seating capacity of just over 200, including wheelchair spaces, the theatre offers an intimate yet fully equipped venue featuring an orchestra pit, fly galleries, and modern technical facilities. It has hosted a wide range of productions, from student drama and musicals to national events such as the UK National Student Film Festival, Screentest. Over the years, notable guests including directors, actors, and BAFTA representatives have appeared on its stage, adding to its reputation as a platform for emerging talent. Following a major refurbishment between 2013 and 2015, the Winston Theatre was modernised while retaining its character, ensuring it continues to serve as a creative hub for students and the wider Bristol community.
