Centrespace Studios & Gallery

Centrespace Studios & Gallery
About

Centrespace Studios & Gallery, tucked away on Leonard Lane in the heart of Bristol, is one of the city’s longest‑running artist‑led spaces. Founded in 1977 by a collective of artists and craftspeople seeking affordable studios, it has grown into a thriving cooperative that owns and manages its historic building independently. Today, Centrespace provides around 30 studios across three floors, supporting a diverse community of makers, from painters, printmakers, and illustrators to jewellers, sculptors, architects, and animators. At its core is the Centrespace Gallery, established in 2000 as a not‑for‑profit exhibition space showcasing fresh and experimental work across all media, from painting and photography to installation and performance. The ground floor also houses the Chocolate Factory, a flexible workshop and event space that continues the site’s tradition of community engagement. With its mix of heritage, independence, and creative energy, Centrespace remains a vital hub for Bristol’s artistic life, offering both a platform for emerging talent and a home for established practitioners.
