Laveshaus

Laveshaus
About

Laveshaus Hannover is a neoclassical landmark located at Friedrichswall 5, built between 1822 and 1824 by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves, the royal court architect of the Kingdom of Hanover. Designed as his private residence, the three-story building reflects Laves’ mastery of classical architecture, with elegant proportions and restrained ornamentation. The property was a wedding gift from his wife Wilhelmine Kestner’s family, and the couple lived on the top floor while the lower levels were leased to prominent figures such as diplomats and military officers. Over time, the house became a hub of civic life, serving as a health office before housing the city’s press department. Since 1996, it has been the seat of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Architects, which celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2024 with a major exhibition. The building remains a testament to Laves’ influence on Hanover’s urban identity and continues to inspire architectural dialogue.
