Commedia Futura
About

Commedia Futura is a pioneering multimedia theater company based in Hanover’s Südstadt, celebrated for its genre-defying productions and artistic innovation. Founded in 1982 by Wolfgang Piontek and a collective of dancers, actors, and visual artists, Commedia Futura has become a cornerstone of Hanover’s independent theater scene. Since 1987, it has been housed in the Eisfabrik, a repurposed ice factory transformed into a vibrant arts center. The company is known for its experimental approach, blending spoken theater, dance, music, and video projections into immersive stage experiences. Over four decades, it has produced more than 100 original works and hosted numerous guest performances and festivals. Commedia Futura’s repertoire often draws inspiration from film, literature, and contemporary social themes, creating bold interpretations such as “Fight Club” and “Tarantino Samples.” Under the artistic direction of Oliver Dressel, the theater continues to push boundaries with productions like “GODS – Dreams, Desires & Destructions.” Its commitment to interdisciplinary art and cultural dialogue makes it a vital force in Hanover’s creative landscape.
