Kröpcke-Uhr
About

The Kröpcke-Uhr in Hannover is not a traditional museum but a historic city landmark that doubles as a public exhibition space, located at the heart of the pedestrian zone on Georgstraße. Originally installed in 1885, the ornate clock was designed by architect Conrad Oertel and quickly became a popular meeting point near Café Robby, later renamed after its long-time proprietor Wilhelm Kröpcke. Though the original clock survived World War II, it was replaced and eventually reconstructed in 1977 as a faithful replica. Since 2005, the Kulturraum Region Hannover association has curated rotating art exhibitions inside the clock’s glass display case, transforming it into a miniature cultural venue. Artists from across the region contribute to its evolving showcase, making the Kröpcke-Uhr a symbol of civic pride and creative expression. Celebrated for its 130th anniversary in 2015, the clock remains a beloved fixture of Hanover’s urban identity, blending heritage with contemporary art in a uniquely public format.
