UHu-Theater is a beloved cabaret and small arts venue in Hanover, known for its intimate atmosphere and rich cultural programming. Founded in 2001 as UHu-Theater der Kleinkunst e.V., the name combines the initials of its founders, Ulrich Reutlinger and Hubert Korén, and pays homage to the historic Uhu-Stuben artist cafés of Hanover. Initially based in Südstadt, the theater found a permanent home in 2003 at the Athanasius Church on Böhmerstraße, before relocating in 2023 to the prestigious Künstlerhaus on Sophienstraße. Over the past two decades, UHu-Theater has hosted more than 250 performances, featuring every recipient of the German Cabaret Award and renowned artists such as Romy Haag, Nicolai Kinski, and Sven Ratzke. Entirely volunteer-run, the theater thrives on passion and community spirit, offering a platform for cabaret, comedy, music, and poetic performance. Its commitment to artistic excellence and accessible culture makes it a cornerstone of Hanover’s vibrant small arts scene.
