Schauspielhaus Hannover is the principal venue of Schauspiel Hannover, one of Germany’s leading publicly funded theatre companies, located at Prinzenstraße 9 in central Hanover. The current building opened in 1992, but its roots trace back to 1911 when the city acquired the Schauburg theatre on Hildesheimer Straße. After the original Schauspielhaus was destroyed in World War II, performances continued in temporary venues until the new theatre was built. Today, Schauspielhaus Hannover is part of the Niedersächsisches Staatstheater Hannover and operates alongside four other stages: Ballhof Eins, Ballhof Zwei, Cumberlandsche Bühne, and Cumberlandsche Galerie. The Schauspielhaus features a large stage and modern facilities, hosting a diverse repertoire from classical drama to experimental productions. It is known for its bold programming, international collaborations, and commitment to social discourse.
