The Gutenberg Museum in Mainz is one of the world’s oldest printing museums, dedicated to the legacy of Johannes Gutenberg and the evolution of written communication. Founded in 1900 to honor Gutenberg’s invention of movable metal type, the museum houses an extraordinary collection spanning four millennia—from ancient cuneiform tablets to modern typography. Highlights include two original Gutenberg Bibles, a reconstruction of Gutenberg’s workshop, and interactive exhibits in the Druckladen print shop. Located opposite Mainz Cathedral, the museum recently relocated to the Natural History Museum during renovations, launching the “Gutenberg Museum MOVED” exhibition in late 2024.
