Mainzer Kammerspiele is Mainz’s intimate stage for bold, contemporary performance. Founded in 1986 by freelance artists, this privately run theatre in the Malakoff Passage hosts over 200 performances each season, including premieres of original productions. It’s home to nine ensembles that explore everything from traditional spoken theatre to experimental drama, ballet, musicals for children, and topical revues. The venue champions contemporary playwrights, staging first-time works and fresh adaptations that challenge and entertain. The Mainzer Kammerspiele is located at Rheinstr. 4, in the Altstadt district of Mainz, within the Fort Malakoff Park area and adjacent to the Malakoff Passage complex. This privately operated theater specializes in contemporary plays, avant-garde performances, and innovative children’s musicals, with over 200 shows held per season and several annual premieres.
