Oude Luxor Theater is one of Rotterdam’s most cherished historic stages, a venue that has carried the city’s cultural spirit for more than a century. Opened in 1917 on the lively Kruiskade, it first operated as a luxury cinema before evolving into a beloved theatre known for cabaret, intimate concerts, and theatrical performances. Its warm, classic interior preserves the charm of early twentieth‑century entertainment, allowing visitors to feel the echoes of generations of artists and audiences. Despite wartime destruction elsewhere in the city, the building survived and became an essential post‑war performance space. Today, with around a thousand seats, the Oude Luxor continues to offer an inviting, nostalgic atmosphere while presenting a diverse programme that keeps Rotterdam’s theatrical heritage alive.
