Markthal is one of Rotterdam’s most eye‑catching modern landmarks, a bold combination of food market, apartments, and public art under a single sweeping arch. Opened in 2014 and designed by MVRDV, the building curves around a vast indoor hall filled with fresh‑food stalls, specialty shops, and lively eateries. Its interior is dominated by the spectacular artwork “Horn of Plenty,” a colourful digital mural that stretches across the entire vaulted ceiling and has become one of the city’s most photographed sights. The glass façades at both ends create a light‑filled space that feels open yet sheltered, making the Markthal a popular meeting point for locals and visitors. Blending architecture, gastronomy, and urban energy, it stands as a symbol of Rotterdam’s innovative spirit and its talent for transforming everyday spaces into memorable experiences.
