Huis ten Donck is one of the region’s most elegant and historically significant estates, located just outside Rotterdam in Ridderkerk. Built in 1746 on the foundations of an earlier seventeenth‑century manor, the house is a beautifully preserved example of Dutch rococo architecture, surrounded by a sweeping 22‑hectare landscape park designed in the English style. Still privately inhabited by the same family that has cared for it for centuries, the estate retains its authentic character, complete with historic outbuildings, long avenues, and serene woodland. Although the house itself is not open to the public, the surrounding park welcomes visitors who come to enjoy its tranquillity, heritage, and timeless atmosphere. As one of the last intact country estates near Rotterdam, Huis ten Donck offers a rare glimpse into the grandeur of the Dutch buitenplaats tradition.

Huis ten Donck is located at Donckselaan 1, 2983 LA Ridderkerk, just outside Rotterdam along the Nieuwe Maas river in the Waal-Eastern part of the city region. This historic 18th-century estate, built in 1746 by Rotterdam mayor Otto Groeninx van Zoelen, features a grand Rococo mansion surrounded by the 22-hectare Donckse Bos park in English landscape style, accessible by car via the A38 or public transport from Rotterdam Zuid station (15-minute drive). Nearby attractions include the expansive park paths, the model Boerenwoning playhouse, river views of the Waal harbour area, Ridderkerk village centre with shops and cafes 2 km east, and easy connections to Rotterdam's Slinge metro or Bolnes ferry terminal for city access.
