Hupisaaret Islands form one of Oulu’s most enchanting urban green areas, a network of small, tree‑covered islands connected by white wooden bridges and surrounded by gently flowing streams. Located just north of the city centre, the parkland has been a favourite local retreat since the late 1800s, offering winding paths, open lawns, flower gardens and quiet corners ideal for picnics or leisurely walks. The islands are home to cultural landmarks such as the Hupisaari Open‑Air Theatre and the Oulu Art Museum, adding artistic life to the natural setting. In summer, the area is filled with light, birdsong and the scent of blooming gardens, while winter transforms it into a serene snowy landscape. Location

Hupisaaret Islands are a city‑park area located in the Myllytulli district of Oulu, just outside the city centre, in the delta of the Oulu River where the river splits into several small channels around the islands. Nearby you can easily combine a visit with the Hupisaari Open‑Air Theatre, the Kiikkusaari greenhouse and café, the Merikoski fish ladder, the Oulu Museum of Art a short walk away, Northern Ostrobothnia Museum in the park, the Oulu letters photo spot, and the riverside promenade that leads toward Pikisaari Island and the city’s waterfront attractions.
