The University of Oulu Botanical Gardens form one of the northernmost scientific gardens in the world, offering a rich blend of research, education and natural beauty. Located on the Linnanmaa campus by Lake Kuivasjärvi, the gardens feature more than 4,000 plant species that illustrate global vegetation diversity. Their most recognisable landmarks are the pyramid‑shaped greenhouses Romeo and Julia, where around 1,200 exotic plants from tropical and desert environments thrive. Outdoors, visitors can explore seasonal plantings, experimental plots and peaceful walking paths that highlight species adapted to northern conditions. The gardens also host the Science Garden, a space showcasing university research and sustainable development projects. Open to the public year‑round, the Botanical Gardens provide an inspiring setting where science, nature and learning come together in the heart of Oulu.

The University of Oulu Botanical Gardens are located on the main campus of the University of Oulu in the Linnanmaa district at Kaitoväylä 5, 90570 Oulu, on the shore of Lake Kuivasjärvi a short drive north of the city centre. Nearby you can combine a visit with the University of Oulu’s main campus area, the Oulu Science Park, the lake‑side paths around Kuivasjärvi, the Hupisaaret Islands city park with Northern Ostrobothnia Museum a bit further into town, and the riverside promenade that leads toward Pikisaari Island and the city centre, all within easy reach by bus, bike or car.
