Viktoriapark in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district is a romantic hillside park known for its dramatic waterfall, panoramic city views, and historical significance. Established in 1894 and named after British-born Empress Victoria, the park centers around the 66-meter-high Kreuzberg hill, crowned by Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s neo-Gothic National Monument commemorating the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon. The artificial waterfall, inspired by the Giant Mountains, cascades down the hillside and remains a popular attraction. Viktoriapark also features remnants of Berlin’s wine-growing past, with a small vineyard producing local Kreuz-Neroberger wine. The park’s design by Hermann Mächtig integrates naturalistic landscaping with winding paths, forested slopes, and sculptures such as Ernst Herter’s “The Rare Catch.” A beer garden, playgrounds, and open lawns make it a lively spot for locals and visitors. As Berlin’s highest inner-city elevation, Viktoriapark offers a unique blend of nature, history, and leisure in the heart of Kreuzberg.

Mauerpark is located at Bernauer Straße 47 or Gleimstraße 55, in the vibrant Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin, right on the border with Gesundbrunnen. This unique green space was created on the former “death strip” of the Berlin Wall and still features a preserved section of the original wall, now a canvas for street art and graffiti. Today, Mauerpark is a favorite gathering spot for Berliners and visitors alike, known for its lively atmosphere and community spirit. The park comes alive every Sunday with one of Berlin’s most famous flea markets, where visitors can hunt for antiques, records, fashion, and unique finds, as well as enjoy a diverse food scene—from Berlin’s beloved currywurst to international street food. Another signature experience is the Bearpit Karaoke, where amateurs perform in an open-air amphitheatre packed with supporters. Surrounding the park are popular Prenzlauer Berg cafés, restaurants, bars, and independent shops. The area is well connected to public transport and offers a quick walk to the Berlin Wall Memorial, making Mauerpark an essential blend of history, leisure, and local culture in Berlin.
