Treptower Park, located along the River Spree in Berlin’s Treptow-Köpenick district, is a historic green space known for its vast lawns, riverside paths, and cultural landmarks. Designed by Gustav Meyer and opened in 1888, the park spans 88 hectares and was one of Berlin’s earliest public parks. Its most striking feature is the Soviet War Memorial, a monumental tribute to the 80,000 Red Army soldiers who died in the Battle of Berlin, with a central statue and military cemetery. The park also houses the Archenhold Observatory, home to the world’s longest refracting telescope, and the Zenner beer garden, a popular riverside venue dating back to the 1820s. Visitors can explore the Insel der Jugend via the Abteibrücke, enjoy boat rides, or relax on the expansive meadows. Treptower Park remains a beloved destination for leisure, remembrance, and scenic strolls, offering a unique blend of nature, history, and urban charm in the heart of Berlin.

Treptower Park is a vast, picturesque public park located in the Alt-Treptow neighborhood of Berlin, with the main entrance at Alt-Treptow, 12435 Berlin. Stretching along the banks of the River Spree, the park covers around 84 hectares and is renowned for its scenic riverside paths, lush meadows, rose gardens, and historic avenues of plane trees. Visitors can enjoy walking, jogging, cycling, sunbathing on large grassy lawns, or taking riverboat trips starting from Treptower Hafen, where pleasure boats cruise towards the Stralau peninsula and Müggelsee. A centerpiece is the imposing Soviet War Memorial, one of Germany’s most significant World War II monuments and the resting place for about 7,000 Soviet soldiers. Another highlight is the Archenhold Observatory, home to the world’s longest refracting telescope, where guests can experience stargazing away from city lights. The Insel der Jugend (Island of Youth), reachable via the historic Abteibrücke bridge, features event spaces, a beer garden, and boat rentals. Nearby, you’ll also find the former Spreepark amusement park and the historic Zenner restaurant and beer garden, both adding to the area’s unique appeal.
