Urban Nation: Museum for Urban Contemporary Art, located in Berlin's Schöneberg district at Bülowstraße 7, is a pioneering institution dedicated to showcasing and preserving urban contemporary art, encompassing street art and graffiti. Opened in 2017, it holds the distinction of being Germany's first museum of its kind, providing a unique platform for global artists who creatively engage with urban spaces. The museum is an initiative of the non-profit Stiftung Berliner Leben, founded by the Gewobag housing association, emphasizing a strong connection between art and community. The museum's innovative concept, developed by the architecture firm GRAFT, transformed a 19th-century Wilhelminian-style building into a dynamic exhibition space. This was achieved by removing ceilings and inserting diagonal bridges, creating an open, multi-level environment designed to evoke the experience of exploring a city street. A standout feature is the building's modular facade, which is regularly transformed by different street artists. This constant evolution makes the building itself an ever-changing canvas and an artwork in its own right, ensuring a fresh visual experience with each visit.
