The Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz Theatre in Zakopane, known as the Witkacy Theatre, is one of the city’s most distinctive cultural institutions. Founded in 1985 by a group of young actors and directors seeking artistic independence, it was inspired by the avant‑garde ideas of its patron, Witkacy, whose theory of Pure Form shaped the theatre’s experimental spirit. Housed in the former hydrotherapy institute of Dr. Andrzej Chramiec, the building once served as a meeting place for the artistic elite, and today its atmospheric interiors continue that tradition. The theatre is known for bold, metaphysical productions that blend humour, reflection, and emotional intensity, often accompanied by concerts, recitals, and exhibitions in its gallery. Its repertoire changes with the tourist seasons, making it a dynamic part of Zakopane’s cultural landscape. The Witkacy Theatre remains a space of creative freedom, surprising audiences and honouring the region’s artistic heritage.

Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz Theatre is located at ul. Chramcówki 15 in the centre of Zakopane, housed in the historic building of the former Dr Andrzej Chramec hydrotherapy institute, now part of the Chałubiński hotel complex. It sits a short walk from the main Krupówki promenade, near the Tatra Museum, local restaurants and cafés along Chramcówki and nearby streets, as well as bus stops and central parking areas serving Zakopane’s town centre and the surrounding Tatra foothills.
