About

The Church of the Holy Family in Zakopane is the town’s oldest brick church and a prominent landmark at the entrance to Krupówki Street. Built between 1877 and 1896 from local stone, it combines neoromanesque architecture with subtle elements of the Zakopane Style, creating a distinctive mountain character. Inside, the basilica‑like layout features a richly carved main altar depicting the Holy Family, surrounded by colourful polychromes that present biblical scenes through a highlander artistic lens. Stained‑glass windows illuminate the interior with warm light, while the adjoining Chapel of St. John the Baptist showcases pure regional craftsmanship. Throughout its history, the church has served as a spiritual heart of Zakopane, welcoming both residents and travellers. In 1997 it hosted Pope John Paul II during his pilgrimage to the Tatras, further strengthening its symbolic importance. Today, it remains a peaceful and culturally significant sanctuary amid the lively atmosphere of the town’s main promenade.

Kościół Najświętszej Rodziny (Holy Family Church) is located at Krupówki 1a in the very centre of Zakopane, at the beginning of the main Krupówki promenade. It sits just steps away from the heart of the town’s shopping and dining strip, within easy walking distance of local cafés and restaurants, the Tatra Museum, the Oscypek Museum, Iluzja Park and other Zakopane‑style chapels and landmarks along the surrounding streets.
