Giewont is the most emblematic peak overlooking Zakopane, instantly recognisable by its distinctive silhouette and the large iron cross crowning its summit. Rising above the town at nearly 1,900 metres, it has long been a symbol of the Tatras and a source of local legends, often associated with the figure of the Sleeping Knight. Giewont Mountain is located in the Western Tatras within Tatra National Park, towering over Zakopane in southern Poland at 1,895 meters elevation. Popular hiking trails start from Kuźnice near Zakopane town center, passing through Hala Kondratowa and Kondracka Przełęcz saddle.
