The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Jaszczurówka is one of the finest examples of the Zakopane architectural style and a masterpiece designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz. Built between 1904 and 1907, the wooden chapel stands on a high stone foundation and blends harmoniously with the surrounding spruce forest on the slopes of Jaszczurówka. Its steep shingled roof, carved details, and elegant proportions reflect the craftsmanship of local highlander carpenters who brought Witkiewicz’s vision to life. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and intimate, illuminated by colourful stained‑glass windows depicting national symbols of Poland and Lithuania. The main altar resembles a traditional mountain cottage, enriched with folk ornamentation and handcrafted elements. Later additions, including side altars and painted glass Stations of the Cross, complement the original design without disturbing its purity. Today, the chapel remains an active place of worship and a beloved cultural landmark, admired for its beauty, serenity, and deep connection to Podhale’s artistic heritage.

The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Jaszczurówka is located in the Jaszczurówka district of Zakopane, at Jaszczurówka 38, on the slopes just above the town centre. It sits near the Toporowa–Cyrhla folk‑art and pilgrimage area, close to the Rusinowa Polana meadow with the chapel of Our Lady of Jaworzyna, Queen of the Tatra Mountains, and a short bus or walk from central Zakopane, with easy access to restaurants, bus stops and other Zakopane‑style wooden chapels in the surrounding area.
