The Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Zakopane, often called the Old Church, is the town’s oldest surviving temple and a beautiful example of traditional highlander wooden architecture. Built in the mid‑19th century on Kościeliska Street, it originally served as St. Clement’s Church before being dedicated to Our Lady of Częstochowa in the 1930s. Its modest, intimate interior is adorned with folk paintings, wooden sculptures, and three altars crafted by renowned local sculptor Wojciech Kułach‑Wawrzyńcok. The church’s atmosphere is deeply rooted in regional craftsmanship, with intricate woodwork and devotional art reflecting the spiritual life of Podhale. Surrounded by the historic Pęksowy Brzyzek Cemetery, it forms one of Zakopane’s most evocative heritage sites, offering visitors a quiet, authentic glimpse into the town’s early history and cultural identity.
