Inside, visitors move through thematic rooms filled with uniforms, medals, field equipment, and personal belongings of soldiers. The museum’s collection of Balkan Wars artefacts is especially compelling, showing how the city became a major military hub during Greece’s territorial expansion. Detailed maps and archival photographs help illustrate troop movements and diplomatic tensions. The World War I section highlights Thessaloniki’s role as headquarters of the Allied Army of the Orient, featuring rare documents and items from multinational forces stationed in the region. The War Museum of Thessaloniki is in a very convenient area, close to the center but a bit quieter, which makes it nice for a relaxed visit. The address is Grigoriou Lampraki Street, Thessaloniki 546 36, Greece, near Pedion tou Areos park. It's located not far from the main museums of the city, so you can easily include it in a museum day. The building is modern and easy to spot, with some military vehicles displayed outside. What is great about its location is that you are close to a lot of other sights. Just a short walk away you have the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the Museum of Byzantine Culture, which are together in the same cultural area. Towards the sea you will find the famous White Tower of Thessaloniki and the waterfront promenade, perfect for a coffee after the museum. If you head towards the city center, you can visit the Arch and Palace of Galerius, the Rotunda, and Aristotelous Square with its shops and restaurants. The area around the War Museum also has nice parks and cafes, so it's easy to combine history with a pleasant walk through the city.
