MOMus – Thessaloniki Museum of Photography is one of the city’s most atmospheric cultural spaces, dedicated to the art, history, and evolving language of photography. Located at the port, the museum occupies a former warehouse whose industrial character complements the visual stories displayed inside. Since its founding in 1998, it has become Greece’s leading institution for photographic heritage and contemporary practice. Inside, visitors encounter a rich blend of historical archives and modern artistic expression. The permanent collection includes early cameras, darkroom tools, and rare prints that trace the development of Greek photography from the 19th century onward. Exhibits on documentary photography highlight powerful visual records of social change, urban life, and the shifting identity of Thessaloniki itself. Rotating exhibitions bring international and Greek photographers into dialogue, showcasing themes such as migration, architecture, memory, and experimental image‑making. A particularly engaging section focuses on the Thessaloniki Photobiennale, one of Southeast Europe’s most important photography festivals, with archival material, catalogues, and standout works from past editions.
Thessaloniki Greece
The MOMus – Thessaloniki Museum of Photography is in one of the most atmospheric parts of the city, right in the old port that has become a cultural hotspot. The address is Warehouse A, Port of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki 546 27, Greece. It's located on the first pier of the port, just a few minutes walk from Aristotelous Square and the city center. The museum is inside a beautifully restored warehouse, and the whole port area is now full of museums, galleries, cafes and cinemas, so it has a very creative and relaxed feeling. Because of its location, you have a lot to see around it without going far. In the same warehouse complex you will find the Thessaloniki Cinema Museum and Cinematheque and the MOMus Experimental Center for the Arts. Right outside the port you are close to the famous White Tower of Thessaloniki and the long waterfront promenade, perfect for a walk after the museum. A short walk inland brings you to Ladadika, the old historic district with colorful buildings, tavernas and bars, and to sights like the Roman Agora and Aristotelous Square. It's an ideal spot to combine photography and film with a stroll along the sea and some good food in the old town.
