The Deutsches Architekturmuseum (German Architecture Museum) in Frankfurt am Main is a pioneering institution dedicated to the exploration and presentation of architecture in all its forms. Founded in 1984 as the first museum of its kind in Germany, it occupies a striking villa redesigned by architect Oswald Mathias Ungers, who created the iconic “house within a house” concept that has become a symbol of the museum’s identity. Its permanent exhibition, “From Primitive Hut to Skyscraper,” traces the evolution of architecture through 25 detailed models, offering visitors a vivid journey from early human shelters to modern urban skylines. Alongside this, the museum hosts a dynamic program of temporary exhibitions addressing both national and international themes, from sustainable urban planning to contemporary design innovations. With a collection of more than 160,000 architectural drawings, 500 models, and a wide range of archival materials, the museum serves as a vital resource for scholars, professionals, and the general public alike. The Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) is located at Schaumainkai 43 in Frankfurt am Main, along the city’s renowned Museumsufer on the south bank of the River Main in the Sachsenhausen district. Set within a converted 19th-century villa redesigned by architect Oswald Mathias Ungers, it is easily accessible via U-Bahn lines U1, U2, U3, and U8 to Schweizer Platz or by tram 15 and 16 to Schweizer-/Gartenstraße. The museum sits beside other major cultural institutions, including the German Film Museum, the Museum of Communication, and the Städel Museum. The surrounding area features the riverside promenade with cafés and views of Frankfurt’s skyline, as well as the vibrant Schweizer Straße known for its restaurants, boutiques, and traditional apple wine taverns.​
