The Deutschherrnbrücke is a historic steel arch bridge in Frankfurt am Main, combining industrial heritage with some of the city’s most spectacular skyline views. Completed in 1913, the bridge was originally built to connect the new Ostbahnhof with the Südbahnhof as part of Frankfurt’s expanding railway network. Spanning 274 meters across the River Main, it features a two-track railway line alongside a pedestrian walkway, allowing both trains and visitors to cross between the districts of Sachsenhausen and Ostend. Severely damaged during World War II, the bridge was rebuilt in 1949 and has since remained an important transport link as well as a cultural landmark. Today, the pedestrian path has made the Deutschherrnbrücke a favorite spot for photographers and locals, offering unobstructed views of the Mainhattan skyline, especially striking at sunset when the glass towers of the financial district glow against the river. The bridge is also home to the sound installation Sonic Vista, which adds an artistic dimension to the experience of crossing. Blending functionality, history, and urban beauty, the Deutschherrnbrücke stands as both a vital piece of infrastructure and one of Frankfurt’s most atmospheric vantage points.

Deutschherrnbrücke is a historic steel railway bridge spanning the River Main that connects the Sachsenhausen and Ostend districts of Frankfurt am Main. The bridge features a pedestrian walkway offering one of the city’s most stunning panoramic views of the Frankfurt skyline, including modern skyscrapers such as the Commerzbank Tower and the European Central Bank building. This bridge is part of the Frankfurt Green Belt Circular Trail, making it popular among walkers and cyclists.
