The Goethe House in Frankfurt am Main is the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Germany’s most celebrated poet and thinker, and one of the city’s most treasured cultural landmarks. Located on Großer Hirschgraben, the house was built in the 18th century and carefully reconstructed after its destruction in World War II. Within its walls, Goethe spent his childhood and youth, writing early masterpieces such as Götz von Berlichingen and The Sorrows of Young Werther, and beginning the drafts of Faust. Today, the house is preserved as a museum, furnished with authentic period pieces that recreate the atmosphere of an affluent Frankfurt family home of the time. Visitors can explore the poet’s study, the family’s reception rooms, and the puppet theatre that inspired Goethe’s imagination as a boy. Next door, the Goethe Museum presents paintings, prints, and artifacts from the writer’s era, offering deeper insight into the cultural world that shaped him. Together, they form a memorial to Goethe’s enduring legacy and a vivid journey into the intellectual life of 18th‑century Frankfurt.

The Goethe House is located at Großer Hirschgraben 23-25 in the Innenstadt district of Frankfurt am Main. It is the birthplace and childhood home of the renowned German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The historic building has been reconstructed to reflect the original 18th-century style, showcasing period furniture and art that give insight into Goethe’s early life and literary beginnings. The house is situated adjacent to the Deutsches Romantik-Museum, with which it shares a joint ticket for visitors. Nearby are major city landmarks including Römerberg square, Frankfurt Cathedral, and the bustling Zeil shopping street. The site is easily accessible via U-Bahn and S-Bahn at Hauptwache and Dom/Römer stations, making it centrally located for cultural exploration in Frankfurt.​
