Schauspiel Frankfurt is the municipal theatre company for plays in Frankfurt am Main, operating as part of Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt. With roots tracing back to the late 18th century and the opening of the Comoedienhaus in 1782, it stands as the largest spoken theatre in the Rhine-Main region. The current Schauspielhaus, located at Willy-Brandt-Platz, was rebuilt and modernized after World War II destruction, opening in 1963. It features multiple venues including Schauspielhaus, Kammerspiele, Bockenheimer Depot, and Box, hosting a broad repertoire of classic and contemporary drama. Known for groundbreaking productions and premieres, Schauspiel Frankfurt combines tradition with innovative artistic direction under Intendant Anselm Weber.
