The Astronomical Observatory of the Jagiellonian University is one of Kraków’s most intriguing scientific landmarks, located in the quiet district of Bielany. Founded in the late 19th century, it has long served as a centre for astronomical research and education, continuing the university’s centuries‑old tradition of studying the cosmos. The historic domes and pavilions house classic telescopes alongside modern instruments, creating a unique blend of heritage and contemporary science. Surrounded by greenery, the observatory offers a peaceful setting that enhances its contemplative atmosphere. Although primarily a research facility, it occasionally opens its doors for lectures, exhibitions, and special events that introduce visitors to the mysteries of the night sky. Location

The Jagiellonian University Astronomical Observatory is located at 171 Orla Street (ul. Orla 171) in the Wola Justowska area of western Kraków, about 10 km west of the historic city centre, within the former Austro‑Hungarian military Fort Skała on a wooded hill. It sits on the northern edge of the Wolski Forest and near the green Wola Justowska villa district, with easy access along Królowej Jadwigi Street towards attractions such as Kościuszko Mound, Decjusz Park and Villa Decius, while the city’s Błonia meadow and Old Town can be reached in around 20–30 minutes by car or public transport.
