About

Sukiennice, or the Cloth Hall, is the architectural and cultural centerpiece of Kraków’s Main Market Square, embodying centuries of trade, craftsmanship, and urban life. Originally built in the 14th century as a hub for merchants, it became a thriving marketplace where exotic goods such as spices, silk, and leather were exchanged. After a Renaissance‑style reconstruction in the 16th century, the building gained its elegant arcades and decorative attic, giving it the distinctive silhouette admired today. Inside, the ground floor remains a lively trading hall filled with stalls offering traditional Polish crafts and souvenirs, while the upper level houses the Gallery of 19th‑Century Polish Art, showcasing masterpieces of national painting. Blending history, commerce, and culture under one roof, Sukiennice continues to be a vibrant symbol of Kraków’s enduring spirit.

Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) is located at Rynek Główny 1/3 in the center of Kraków's Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), within the Old Town (Stare Miasto), southern Poland.
