About

Planty Park is a green ribbon encircling Kraków’s Old Town, offering a peaceful escape where medieval history meets everyday city life. Created in the 19th century on the site of the former defensive walls, the park forms a continuous walkway shaded by old trees, dotted with fountains, monuments, and quiet benches. Its winding paths lead visitors past remnants of the city’s fortifications, including towers and gates that once guarded the royal capital. Throughout the seasons, Planty transforms in character, from spring blossoms to autumn colours, making it a favourite place for strolls, relaxation, and reflection. As both a historical boundary and a living urban garden, Planty Park remains one of Kraków’s most beloved public spaces.

Planty Park is located encircling Kraków's Old Town (Stare Miasto) in southern Poland, forming a 4-kilometer green ring where the medieval city walls once stood, spanning about 21 hectares with 30 distinct gardens. Nearby, Main Market Square with St. Mary's Basilica and Cloth Hall pulses at its heart, Florian Gate and Kraków Barbican mark the northern entry, Wawel Castle crowns the southern edge by the Vistula River, while churches like St. Francis of Assisi, Archbishop's Palace, Jagiellonian University buildings, and historic streets such as Floriańska and Grodzka create an immersive pedestrian-friendly cultural circuit.
