The Church of St. Andrew is one of Kraków’s oldest and most remarkable sacred buildings, standing quietly along the Royal Route in the heart of the Old Town. Built in the late 11th century, it is a rare and beautifully preserved example of Romanesque architecture, with its thick stone walls and twin defensive towers that once allowed the church to serve as a refuge during medieval invasions. Inside, the austere exterior gives way to an elegant Baroque interior added centuries later, filled with ornate stucco, gilded details, and soft light that creates an intimate, contemplative atmosphere. The church is home to the Order of Poor Clares, whose presence adds a sense of living tradition to the historic space. With its blend of simplicity, strength, and spiritual depth, St. Andrew’s remains one of Kraków’s most quietly captivating landmarks.
