Waroux Castle is one of the most distinctive historic sites in the Liège region, known for its rare circular layout and deep medieval roots. Originally built in the 13th century, it served as the seat of a local lordship and later became a focal point in regional conflicts, including the War of the Awans and Waroux. Its stone keep and encircling walls still reflect its defensive origins, while later additions introduced a blend of brick and cut‑stone architecture around a polygonal courtyard. For centuries, the castle remained in the hands of noble families before passing to the municipality of Ans in the early 21st century. Today, Waroux Castle has been revitalized as a cultural venue, hosting exhibitions and artistic events that animate its historic spaces. Set at the edge of the Hesbaye region, it offers visitors a compelling mix of heritage, atmosphere, and contemporary creativity within a uniquely preserved medieval structure.

Waroux Castle (Château de Waroux) is located in the village of Alleur, in the municipality of Ans, Province of Liège, Wallonia, at Rue de Waroux 301, 4432 Ans, on a prominent hill at the entrance to the Hesbaye region. It sits within the Ans countryside, a short distance northeast of central Liège and close to the edge of the city’s urban area. Nearby, visitors will find the villages of Alleur and Ans, with local farms and open fields, as well as access to major regional routes and attractions such as the Fort de Loncin and the Coteaux de la Citadelle, while the historic heart of Liège and its main sights remain within easy driving distance.
