Church of the Holy Trinity Gdansk

About

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Gdańsk is one of the city’s most intriguing sacred complexes, combining centuries of religious, cultural, and architectural heritage. Founded in the 15th century as part of a Franciscan monastery, the church stands out for its harmonious Gothic design, characterised by soaring brick walls, pointed arches, and a serene, spacious interior. Within its walls, visitors find a rich collection of artworks, including medieval sculptures, Baroque altars, and historic epitaphs that reflect the diverse communities once connected to this place. After the Reformation, the complex became home to the city’s first Protestant congregation, and today it houses the National Museum’s Department of Ethnography, creating a unique blend of spiritual and cultural functions. The church’s peaceful atmosphere contrasts with the lively streets of the Old Town, offering a quiet retreat where history feels close and the layers of Gdańsk’s past reveal themselves with subtle elegance.
