The European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk is a powerful tribute to the Solidarity movement and its role in ending communist rule in Poland. Located beside the historic Gdańsk Shipyard, the centre’s striking steel‑clad building evokes the hull of a ship and symbolises the city’s industrial heritage. Inside, an immersive permanent exhibition traces the rise of Solidarity, the struggles of workers, and the broader fight for human rights across Europe. Original documents, photographs, multimedia installations, and personal stories create a vivid narrative that connects past events with contemporary democratic values. The centre also serves as a cultural and educational hub, hosting debates, concerts, and community initiatives. Its rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of the shipyard cranes, reinforcing the deep link between place and history. The European Solidarity Centre stands as a living monument to freedom, courage, and social change.

Location

The European Solidarity Centre is located at Plac Solidarności 1 in Gdańsk, on Solidarność Square at the edge of the historic Gdańsk Shipyard district, about 1 km north of the Old Town. It stands directly next to the iconic Gate No. 2 of the former Lenin Shipyard and the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers of 1970, and lies within a 15–20 minute walk from Gdańsk Główny railway station and the Main Town, where you find Długi Targ, the Neptune Fountain, the Main Town Hall and the Motława waterfront.
