Brama Krakowska is one of Lublin’s most recognisable landmarks and a symbolic gateway to the Old Town. Built in the 14th century during the reign of King Casimir the Great, it originally formed part of the city’s defensive walls, guarding the route that led toward Kraków. Over the centuries, the gate was expanded, repaired and reshaped, surviving fires, wars and changing urban needs. Its brick tower, crowned with an octagonal upper section and a distinctive dome, once housed a trumpeter and a clock that regulated daily life in the city. Today, Brama Krakowska stands as both a historical monument and a cultural beacon, home to the Museum of the History of Lublin. Passing beneath it remains a symbolic entrance into the heart of the city, where medieval heritage and modern life meet in a single architectural icon.
