The Cathedral of the Transfiguration is the spiritual heart of Lublin’s Orthodox community and one of the city’s most distinctive sacred landmarks. Built in the early 17th century as part of the Basilian monastery complex, it originally served the Uniate Church before becoming an Orthodox cathedral in the 19th century. Its architecture reflects this layered history, blending Baroque foundations with later Eastern Christian elements, including a characteristic iconostasis and richly decorated interior. The cathedral played an important role in the multicultural life of Lublin, standing at the crossroads of Latin, Eastern, and Jewish traditions that once shaped the city. Today it remains an active place of worship and a symbol of the region’s diverse heritage, admired for its serene atmosphere, historic icons, and enduring presence in the urban landscape.

The Cathedral of the Transfiguration, Lublin's main Orthodox cathedral of the Polish Orthodox Church's Diocese of Lublin and Chełm, is located on Ruska Street between Staromiejskie and Czwartek Hills in the Old Town, at coordinates 51°15′08.1″N 22°34′25.9″E. Built between 1607-1633 on the site of earlier churches, this historic temple exemplifies Lublin's multi-denominational heritage and was once home to Basilian monks after the Union of Brest. Nearby, wander Ruska Street's colorful Renaissance tenements toward Market Square, Lublin Castle with its Donjon tower, the Crown Tribunal, Grodzka Gate to the Jewish Quarter, and atmospheric hills with views over the Old Town's cobblestone charm, cafes, and landmarks like the Archcathedral of St. John.
