Built in the early 17th century as part of the Basilian monastery complex, it originally served the Uniate Church before becoming an Orthodox cathedral in the 19th century. Its architecture reflects this layered history, blending Baroque foundations with later Eastern Christian elements, including a characteristic iconostasis and richly decorated interior. The cathedral played an important role in the multicultural life of Lublin, standing at the crossroads of Latin, Eastern, and Jewish traditions that once shaped the city. The Cathedral of the Transfiguration, Lublin's main Orthodox cathedral of the Polish Orthodox Church's Diocese of Lublin and Chełm, is located on Ruska Street between Staromiejskie and Czwartek Hills in the Old Town, at coordinates 51°15′08.1″N 22°34′25.9″E. Built between 1607-1633 on the site of earlier churches, this historic temple exemplifies Lublin's multi-denominational heritage and was once home to Basilian monks after the Union of Brest.
