The Donjon of Lublin Castle is the city’s oldest surviving structure and a rare example of Romanesque architecture in eastern Poland. Built in the mid‑13th century as a cylindrical defensive tower, it once formed the core of the medieval stronghold protecting the region. Its massive stone and brick walls, over three metres thick, and the characteristic biforium window on the upper level reflect its original military purpose. Over centuries the tower endured invasions, reconstruction of the surrounding castle, and later incorporation into a 19th‑century prison complex. Since the mid‑20th century it has served as part of the Lublin Museum, offering visitors an atmospheric journey through its layered history. The viewing terrace at the top provides one of the city’s most striking panoramas, making the Donjon both a historic monument and a memorable vantage point.

This 20-meter cylindrical stone structure offers panoramic views from its terrace and houses Lublin Museum exhibitions.
