Teatr im. Juliusza Osterwy

About

The Juliusz Osterwa Theatre is Lublin’s principal dramatic stage and one of the oldest theatre buildings in Poland, housed in an elegant neo‑Renaissance structure completed in 1886. Founded through the initiative of local industrialists and intellectuals, it quickly became a cultural landmark, hosting renowned actors and shaping the city’s artistic life. Over the decades the theatre survived wars, political changes, and periods of reinvention, yet it has consistently upheld a strong repertory tradition. Its richly decorated interiors, historic stage machinery, and distinctive façade reflect its long heritage, while its programme blends classic Polish drama with contemporary interpretations. Today, the theatre remains a cornerstone of Lublin’s cultural identity, offering audiences a refined and engaging theatrical experience.
