Staatstheater Stuttgart is Europe’s largest three-branch theatre, offering world-class opera, ballet, and drama in a historic and architecturally striking setting. Located in the heart of Stuttgart’s Schlossgarten, the theatre complex includes the neoclassical Opernhaus (Großes Haus) and the modern Schauspielhaus (Kleines Haus). Designed by Max Littmann and opened in 1912, the Opernhaus survived World War II largely intact and remains a cultural landmark. The Stuttgart Opera is internationally acclaimed for its innovative productions, while the Stuttgart Ballet has earned global recognition since the 1960s for its expressive choreography and artistic excellence. The Staatstheater Stuttgart is located at Oberer Schlossgarten 6, 70173 Stuttgart, right in the city center adjacent to Schlossgarten Park. This historic yet beautifully maintained theatre complex includes the grand Opera House (Opernhaus) and the smaller Drama Theatre (Schauspielhaus), renowned for opera, ballet, and dramatic performances. The building, designed by Max Littmann and opened between 1909 and 1912, survived WWII with the Opera House largely intact, while the Drama Theatre was rebuilt in the 1960s. Surrounding the theatre, visitors will find the bustling Schlossplatz with its shops, cafés, and cultural landmarks such as the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and Staatsgalerie Stuttgart nearby.
