The Stuttgart Tram Museum, also known as Straßenbahnmuseum Stuttgart, is located in the former Bad Cannstatt tram depot at Veielbrunnenweg 3. Opened in 2009, it presents more than 140 years of tram history, from the first horse-drawn tram of 1868 to the last GT4 trams that ran until 2007. The exhibition covers around 2,500 square meters, with themed sections that explore the development of vehicles, operations, and technology. Visitors can see historic tramcars, uniforms, tickets, and technical equipment, all illustrating how public transport shaped Stuttgart’s growth. A highlight of the museum is its collection of restored vintage trams, many of which are still operational. On Sundays and special occasions, visitors can even ride these historic vehicles through the city, experiencing Stuttgart’s transport heritage firsthand. The museum also includes a section on the history of buses, showing how different modes of public transport evolved together. By preserving and presenting this history, the Stuttgart Tram Museum serves as both a cultural and technical archive, celebrating the role of trams in everyday life and urban development. It is managed by the association Stuttgarter Historische Straßenbahnen e.V. in cooperation with the city’s transport company (SSB).
