Schlossgarten Stuttgart is the city’s central green oasis, stretching from the New Palace to the Neckar River and offering a tranquil escape amid urban life. Spanning over 60 hectares, this historic park dates back more than 600 years, originally serving as ducal hunting grounds before evolving into a public landscape. It is divided into Upper, Middle, and Lower Schlossgarten, each with distinct character—from the formal Empire-style fountains near the Academy Garden to the natural lakes and meadows of the Lower section. The park features Eckensee lake, tree-lined paths, sculptures, and seasonal flower beds, all framed by cultural landmarks like the Opera House, State Parliament, and Art Museum. Schlossgarten is a beloved space for jogging, picnicking, and open-air events, with footbridges and bike paths connecting it to Rosenstein Park and Wilhelma Zoo. The park is divided into the formal Upper Schlossgarten, featuring the carefully manicured gardens around the opera house and palace; the more recreational Middle Schlossgarten, which includes the Stuttgart Planetarium; and the naturalistic Lower Schlossgarten, home to ponds, mature trees, and Renaissance ruins. Visitors enjoy strolling along the tree-lined avenues, relaxing by decorative fountains, and experiencing the diverse flora and fauna.
