The Carl-Zeiss Planetarium Stuttgart is a landmark of scientific wonder and architectural elegance, offering immersive journeys through space and time. Originally opened in 1928 in the Hindenburgbau near Stuttgart’s main station, the first planetarium was destroyed during World War II. The current structure, inaugurated in 1977 in the Mittlerer Schlossgarten, was designed with a 20-meter dome and equipped with a state-of-the-art Zeiss projector. Named after Carl Zeiss, the pioneering German optician, the planetarium blends educational outreach with cutting-edge technology. It hosts a wide range of programs—from astronomy lectures and children’s shows to laser concerts and multimedia presentations—making it a cultural and scientific hub for all ages. Operated by the city of Stuttgart, it also manages the Welzheim Observatory, extending its reach into practical astronomy.
