Linden-Museum
About

The Linden-Museum Stuttgart is one of Europe’s leading ethnological museums, offering a journey through global cultures under one roof. Founded in 1911 and named after Karl Graf von Linden, the museum grew out of the 19th‑century Association for Trade Geography, which collected objects from around the world to foster knowledge of distant markets and cultures. Today, it houses more than 160,000 artifacts representing Africa, Asia, the Islamic world, Oceania, and the Americas. Its permanent exhibitions highlight both everyday life and artistic achievements, from Japanese interiors and Himalayan art to African masks and pre‑Columbian treasures. The museum also addresses contemporary issues such as colonial legacies and provenance research, positioning itself as a mediator between cultures and a forum for dialogue. Special exhibitions regularly bring fresh perspectives, while educational programs and tactile tours ensure accessibility for all visitors. Located on Hegelplatz, the Linden-Museum remains a cultural landmark in Stuttgart, inviting guests to explore the diversity of human creativity and history far beyond Europe.
