Schillerplatz is a historic square in Stuttgart’s old town, celebrated for its architectural harmony and cultural legacy. Named after the revered poet Friedrich Schiller, the square dates back to the Middle Ages and was redesigned in the early 17th century by Heinrich Schickhardt under Duke Friedrich’s orders. It is framed by iconic buildings including the Old Castle (Altes Schloss), the Collegiate Church (Stiftskirche), the Fruchtkasten, the Prinzenbau, and the Alte Kanzlei. At its heart stands the Schiller Monument, unveiled in 1839 and cast from cannons, symbolizing civic pride and artistic reverence. Once a princely space, Schillerplatz evolved into a vibrant civic hub, hosting weekly markets and cultural events. Its cobblestone charm and proximity to Schlossplatz make it a serene yet central destination for visitors seeking Stuttgart’s historical soul.

Schillerplatz is a historic cobblestoned square located in Stuttgart’s old city center, just behind the Stiftskirche and beside the Altes Schloss. It is one of the city’s most atmospheric places, framed by late Gothic and Renaissance buildings including the Old Chancellery and the Fruchtkasten. At its center stands the bronze statue of poet and dramatist Friedrich Schiller, commemorating Germany’s celebrated literary figure. The square hosts weekly flower and antique markets and becomes a centerpiece of Stuttgart’s famous Christmas Market in December. Nearby are the Schlossplatz with the baroque Neues Schloss, the Landesmuseum Württemberg inside the Old Castle, the contemporary Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, and the historic Karlsplatz, all within easy walking distance through the compact city center.​
