The Gottlieb-Daimler-Gedächtnisstätte in Stuttgart is a historic landmark where modern mobility was born, offering a glimpse into the pioneering spirit of automotive innovation. Located in Bad Cannstatt, this modest garden house was transformed in 1882 by Gottlieb Daimler into a secret workshop where he and Wilhelm Maybach developed the world’s first high-speed four-stroke gasoline engine. Their vision of a universal motor for land, water, and air vehicles took shape here, away from prying eyes—even the gardener once suspected illegal activity and called the police. Today, the memorial site preserves the original atmosphere of the workshop, complete with tools, engine parts, and historical displays that trace the evolution of Daimler’s groundbreaking work. Visitors can explore the “Grandfather Clock” engine and learn how this small building helped launch the global automotive industry. Operated by the Mercedes-Benz Group, the site is open to the public and offers a quiet yet powerful tribute to engineering genius and entrepreneurial courage.

The Gottlieb-Daimler-Gedächtnisstätte (Gottlieb Daimler Memorial) is located at Taubenheimstraße 13, 70372 Stuttgart, in the Bad Cannstatt district, southeast of the city center. This small historic garden house served as Daimler’s workshop where, together with Wilhelm Maybach, he developed key early engines, including the first high-speed four-stroke engine and the world’s first motorcycle and motorboat. The site is preserved to reflect the original atmosphere of their workshop, displaying tools, a bench, and models of their pioneering inventions. Nearby is Kurpark Bad Cannstatt, a large public park offering green spaces and walking paths. The memorial is accessible via the Bad Cannstatt S-Bahn station, with tram connections close by, and visitors can also explore the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the classic center, both just a short drive away. Parking is available around Kurpark. This area combines historical significance with pleasant natural surroundings, perfect for cultural and leisurely visits.​
